Pokhara, August 3 A school building and a house collapsed due to incessant downpour at Lomanthang of Upper Mustang yesterday. Mahakaruna Primary School, which lies 100 metres away from the popular Lomanthang Durbar, was damaged due to the heavy downpour yesterday. According to DSP Harihar Nath Yogi, life has been adversely affected due to rainfall in Mustang.  The district had not witnessed any rainfall for a few years. “The ten-year-old school building was completely damaged,” said Keshav Rijal, headteacher of the school. There are 14 students at the school where classes are run in the morning. The building collapsed just 15 minute before classes began. Students, who had gathered at the school, saved their lives by running to a safe place, informed Rijal. The school building was built at a cost of Rs 20 million granted by Indian Embassy in 2006. A monitoring team led by Area Administration Office Chief Jitendra Balami took stock of the incident site today. According to the team, the classrooms, library and office were completely damaged. Meanwhile, a house belonging to Kulsang Gurung of Lomanthang Rural Municipality collapsed due to the heavy rainfall, informed Area Administration Office, Lomanthang. Three rooms of the house were completely damaged and one room was partially damaged in the incident. Incessant rainfall has also affected the under-construction Jomsom-Korala road section. Vehicular movement in Upper Mustang has been obstructed due the muddy road.
