Panchthar local level staffers play truant, services hit

By Himalayan News Service

Phidim, September 6 Most government employees deployed at the local levels in Panchthar are staying away from their duty stations. This has adversely affected daily official work and created hassles for service seekers in the district. It has been more than a month since the elected local office representatives were assigned their duty stations,  however, a host of employees, from executive officer to ward secretaries deployed from the offices of Education, Agriculture, Forest, Livestock, Irrigation and Drinking Water, have yet to report to their respective duty stations. Most of them are staying put in the district headquarters, from where they visit the duty station once in a while to mark their attendance. “I’ve heard that both the executive officer and accountant have been transferred. I conveyed my concerns to the CDO but now I hear he too has been transferred elsewhere,” said Phalgunanda Rural Municipality Chief Amar Nembang. “While the lack of staffers has hit the formulation of plans and policy of the rural municipality, it has also hit daily service delivery,” he added. The plight is similar in Yangbarak, Phalelung, Hilihang, Miklajung and Kummayak rural municipalities. In Kummayak, a junior staffer has been deputed to fill in for the post of executive officer. “We’ve deputed a first class non-gazetted officer to carry out the job of executive officer temporarily, but the absence of the government staff is always felt,” he said.
