NC to contest 120 parliamentary seats in second round of polls

Kathmandu, November 2 The Nepali Congress today finalised the names of 120 candidates for parliamentary first-past-the-post election and 225 for provincial FPTP election for the second phase of provincial and parliamentary polls scheduled for December 7. The leaders later filed their nomination papers for the polls. There are 128 parliamentary and 256 provincial FPTP constituencies for the second phase of elections. The party decided to field party President Sher Bahadur Deuba from his home constituency of Dadeldhura-1. According to a press release issued by the prime minister’s press secretariat, the NC had left eight parliamentary constituencies and 31 provincial constituencies for Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana-led RPP-D. The eight parliamentary constituencies that the NC has left for RPP and RPP-D are: Makawanpur-1, Chitwan-3, Banke-3, Dhankuta-1, Sunsari-1, Kathmandu-7, Rupandehi-3 and Dailekh-1. The NC has left 11 provincial constituencies in Province 1, six in Province 2, seven in Province 3, six in Province 5 and one in Province 6 for the RPP and RPP-D. NC leader Bal Krishna Khand said, “We wanted to forge an alliance with the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal for the second phase of polls but could not do so, as the two parties had demanded too many constituencies.” The NC decided to field Bimalendra Nidhi from Dhanusha-3, Krishna Prasad Sitaula from Jhapa-3, Prakash Man Singh from Kathmandu-1, Shekhar Koirala from Morang-6, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar from Sunsari-3 and Shashank Koirala from Nawalparasi Bardghat Susta East (Nawalpur-1). NC also gave ticket to Bishwa Prakash Sharma to contest from Jhapa-1, Kahgendra Adhikari to contest from Jhapa-5, Narayan Khadka from Udaypur-1, Mahesh Acharya from Morang-4, Amrit Kumar Aryal from Morang-5, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki from Sunsari-4, Pradip Giri from Siraha-1, Ananda Prasad Dhungana from Dhanusha-1, Kiran Yadav from Mahottari-2, Amresh Kumar Singh from Sarlahi-4, Farmullah Mansoor from Bara-3, Surendra Kumar Chaudhari from Prasa-3 and Ramesh Rijal from Parsa-4. Among other prominent leaders of the party, Gagan Kumar Thapa will contest from Kathmandu-4, Prakash Sharan Mahat from Kathmandu-5, Nabindra Raj Joshi from Kathmandu-8, Gopalman Shrestha from Syangja-2, Chandra Kanta Bhandari from Gulmi-1, Govinda Raj Pokharel from Pyuthan-1, Purna Bahadur Khadka from Surkhet-1, Arzu Rana Deuba from Kailali-5 and Ramesh Lekhak from Kanchanpur-3.
