Handicraft fair, craft competition ends

Kathmandu, November 21 The 15th Handicraft Trade Fair and 13th Craft Competition concluded today with total transactions of around Rs 150 million in the five-day event. The Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) had organised the exhibition in collaboration with the Trade and Export Promotion Centre. According to Dharma Raj Shakya, president of FHAN, around 250,000 people visited the 200 stalls featured in the exhibition. “Most of the visitors opted for clothes made of natural fibre,” he informed. Shakya also said that handicraft producers from 25 districts had showcased their products in the fair. As per FHAN, Nepal has been exporting handicraft products worth around Rs five billion annually and there are signs of exports increasing in the current fiscal year. “More than one million people are employed in the handicraft industry,” Shakya said. Entrepreneurs from multiple handicraft industries were felicitated at the event.
