The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to extend the statute of limitation, procedural time limits, and appearance dates for ongoing cases. With this decision, the statute of limitation, time limits, and appearance dates for pending cases will remain extended until January 14.
A larger full bench headed by Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, and comprising Senior Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justices Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, Dr Nahakul Subedi, Til Prasad Shrestha, Binod Sharma, Saranga Subedi, Abdul Aziz Musalman, Mahesh Sharma Paudel, Tek Prasad Dhungana, Sunil Kumar Pokhrel, Bal Krishna Dhakal, Nrip Dhowj Niraula, Nityananda Pandey, Meghraj Pokhrel, Shreekanta Paudel, and Shanti Singh Thapa, took the decision on Sunday.
The larger full bench resolved to extend the timeline by 60 days-until January 14-after reviewing a report prepared by Supreme Court officials, including Balaji Prasad Pandey and others, which had proposed a 30-day extension of the statute of limitation, time limits, and appearance dates, SC Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala confirmed.
The full text of the Supreme Court's order will be made public on Monday.
As per the verdict, the deadline for collecting documents related to cases destroyed in the arson and vandalism incidents of September 9 has also been extended by 60 days.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had appealed to concerned stakeholders to assist in the recovery and collection of documents pertaining to those cases.
