KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 24

Police have arrested five individuals in connection with arson and vandalism at the Supreme Court during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9.

The arrested include Raju Pariyar, Kumar Parajuli, Sushil Shrestha, and Jyoti Thapa, according to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the district police range, at a press conference held today. The identity of the fifth person has not yet been disclosed.

Bhattarai further stated that search operations related to the case are ongoing.

The Supreme Court had called on the police to investigate and take strict action against those responsible for the arson. To date, 104 cases of arson, vandalism, and criminal mischief linked to the Gen-Z movement have been registered.

According to police records, 49 people lost their lives in Kathmandu alone during the movement, seven of whom remain unidentified. Authorities have since recovered the bodies of seven previously missing individuals. "Seven skeletons were found at Bhatbhateni in Chuchchepati. Due to the extreme burning, DNA samples could not be obtained," Bhattarai explained.

Meanwhile, police have registered 154 cases under various charges. Of the 267 individuals arrested, 87 have been released on bail, 113 are currently detained, 33 have been granted bail, and 43 remain in custody for further investigation.
