Left alliance secures easy win in Mustang

Pokhara/Manang, Dec 8 Candidates of the left alliance have secured victory in all parliamentary and provincial seats in Mustang. As per the results made public this morning, Prem Prasad Tulachan was elected for the parliamentary seat garnering 3,544 votes while his closest rival Nepali Congress’ Romi Gauchan Thakali obtained 3,181 votes. Tulachan and Gauchan were contenders in the second CA election as well. However, Tulachan was contesting CA polls as an independent candidate and Gauchan had defeated Tulachan by 22 ballots then. Tulachan is a popular construction entrepreneur in Mustang. He started his political career as an NC activist in 1991 and was elected district development committee member in 1998. He is a tourism entrepreneur as well. He has invested in hotels and travel agencies. He played a crucial role in ending transport syndicate in the district. The left alliance candidate also contributed to the development of sports and culture as the chairperson of Thak Sports and Culture Development Association. CPN-UML candidate Indradhara Bista has been elected as a provincial assembly member from Constituency-ka garnering 1,167 votes against his closest rival Mikyor Gurung from NC, who garnered only 657 votes. Bista was elected chairperson of a rural municipality in upper Mustang as an independent candidate. Bista had joined CPN-UML just before elections. Similarly, CPN-UML’s Mahendra Bahadur Thakali has been elected from Constituency-kha of the district with 2,484 votes against his closest rival Tseringdhawa Gurung’s 2,259 votes. Gurung was fielded as a candidate from NC. Of the total 9,427 voters, only 6,773 cast their ballots in Mustang, as per district election office. Meanwhile, a CPN-UML candidate has been elected as a parliamentary member from Manang. Candidate of Nepali Congress and an independent candidate have won the provincial assembly seats from the district. UML’s Polden Chhepang Gurung has been elected for parliamentary seat obtaining 2,300 votes while his rival from NC Tek Bahadur Gurung got 2,021 votes. Likewise, NC Chinta Bahadur Ghale has been elected from Constituency-ka and independent candidate Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange has been elected from Constuency-kha from the district. Ghale obtained 998 votes while his closest rival Dhorje Dandul Gurung garnered 896 votes. Deepak Manange obtained 1,410 votes against his closest rival from NC Karma Gurung, who garnered 1,020 votes. UML candidate Khanda Lama Gurung had withdrawn her candidacy and supported Deeapk Manange in the constituency. Meanwhile, CPN-UML Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa has been elected as parliament member from Myagdi district garnering 23, 308 ballots. His closest rival from NC Khambir Garbuja obtained 20,980 votes. Similarly, CPN-MC’s candidate Binod KC and UML’s candidate Nardevi Pun have been elected for provincial assembly seats from Constituency-ka and kha respectively from of the district.
