KP Shama Oli likely to lead new government: Leader Khanal

KATHMANDU: The former Prime Minister and senior UML leader Jhala Nath Khanal has stressed that KP Sharma Oli is most likely to be the next Prime Minister of Nepal. Speaking at an interaction programme in the Capital on Saturday, Khanal also said a consensus would be forged within a week in policies and leadership for the unification of UML and CPN Maoist Centre. 'The next meeting of the Party Unification Coordination Committee would take concrete decision. Within a week we will have agreement on leadership and policy. If needed we will form two task forces, political ideological and organisational structure. All pertaining issues on unification would be finalised by the task force,' Khanal shared. Former PM Khanal expressed optimism that party unification process could be completed before formation of the new government in the country. 'It's 99 per cent most likely that UML Chairman KP Shama Oli is poised to be the next prime minister of Nepal, however, discussions are yet to be held who would succeed as the chairman of unifed party,' Khanal claimed. Appropriate decision would be taken regarding the appointment of President, Khanal said while answering queries put forth by media about rumors of him being next head of the state. 'It was not appropriate to protest against the announcement of temporary capitals of provinces,' Khanal added. Khanal stated abolition of unemployment, poverty, underdevelopment, health problems and illiteracy were both challenges and opportunities of a government to be formed ahead. He also expressed his hope that a new leadership would successfully face such challenges and meet the goals of building a prosperous and happy Nepal.
