PARBAT: Continuous rainfall accompanied by hailstorm has destroyed vegetables and fruits worth more than Rs 20 million in various parts of Parbat district, District Agricultural Development Office informed. The severe weather phenomena extended heavy damage to vegetables and wheat farms in Phalebas Municipality-2, 3, 4, 8 and 9, Kushma Municipality, Modi, Mahashila, Paiyu, and Banskharka, Dhadring, Shalija, Lekhphanta and Nangliwang under Jaljala Rural Municipality. 'I suffered huge losses as my plantation was ravaged by the weather disaster,' a local farmer said. Work was underway to collect information and initiatives would be taken soon to provide relief to the affected farmers, said Senior Agriculture Development Officer, Basudev Regmi. Respective local levels should act towards that end because many of the affected farmers are yet to be incorporated in the agriculture insurance programme, Regmi added.
