Sweltering heat is expected to continue across the Tarai today, while several hilly and Himalayan districts are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

The department has forecast hot day conditions in Madhesh Province and the Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Bhairahawa is likely to record the highest temperature of the day at 40-42 degrees Celsius, while Nepalgunj and Dhangadi are also expected to experience intense heat ranging between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, generally cloudy conditions are predicted in the hilly and Himalayan regions, where moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at a few places. Isolated rainfall is also possible in parts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Kathmandu Valley is likely to witness moderate rain with thundershowers, with temperatures hovering between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius.

Tonight, Koshi and Madhesh provinces along with the Himalayan region are expected to remain generally cloudy, while most Tarai areas will see mainly fair weather.

The DHM has also forecast light rainfall and snowfall at isolated places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces.

According to the department, the current weather pattern is being influenced by a partial western trough and local wind systems.
