KATHMANDU, MAY 28

Rain-bearing clouds are expected to bring thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across much of the country's hilly and Himalayan regions on Thursday, while hot weather conditions are likely to persist in parts of the western Tarai.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces will remain generally cloudy during the day, with chances of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several hilly and mountainous areas. Similar weather activity is also forecast in parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The department said the country is currently under the combined influence of westerly winds, local winds and a low-pressure system near eastern Nepal.

Despite the changing weather pattern, heatwave-like conditions are likely to continue in parts of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, especially in the Tarai districts. Dhangadhi is expected to record temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, while Nepalgunj could see temperatures reaching up to 39 degrees Celsius during the day.

Kathmandu Valley is likely to witness light rain and thunderstorms with temperatures ranging between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. Pokhara and several eastern hill districts, including Taplejung and Okhaldhunga, are expected to receive moderate rainfall with higher chances of thunderstorms.

The weather office has also forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country tonight, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Gusty winds are also possible in some hilly and Tarai areas, particularly in Lumbini Province and adjoining regions.

Meteorologists have urged people in vulnerable areas to remain alert to possible lightning strikes, strong winds and localized rainfall-related incidents.
