The identities of all four deceased and four injured passengers have been established; three critically injured people were referred to Kathmandu.
HETAUDA, SEPTEMBER 16
Four people were killed and four others injured when a passenger electric vehicle plunged about 1,000 metres from the road in Makwanpur district on Tuesday, police said.
The vehicle, bearing registration number Madhes Province 03-001 Ja 0720, was travelling from Kathmandu to Birgunj when it crashed on the Hetauda–Bhimfedi–Kulekhani–Phakhel road section at Sukoura in Indrasarowar Rural Municipality-2.
The deceased have been identified as 24-year-old Nar Bahadur Singh Thakuri of Kawasoti Municipality-1, Nawalpur; 43-year-old Suraj Bhattarai of Dhanushadham Municipality-4, Dhanusha; 44-year-old Bhuvaneshwar Sah Kanu of Chhipaharmai Rural Municipality-2, Parsa; and 32-year-old Sarfaroz Mia of Parwanipur Rural Municipality-3, Bara.
All four died at the scene, according to the District Police Office, Makwanpur.
The critically injured have been identified as EV driver Amir Ansari, around 20, of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-24, Bara; 23-year-old Kalpana Tamang of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-11; and 23-year-old Rajkumar Syangtan of Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality-1. They were referred to the Trauma Centre in Kathmandu for treatment.
Babia Kumari Yadav, 21, of Mahagadhimai Municipality-11, Bara, sustained moderate injuries and is receiving treatment at Hetauda Hospital.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Kafle, spokesperson for the Makawanpur District Police Office, eight people, including the driver, were travelling in the vehicle.
Police, the Armed Police Force and the Nepali Army reached the crash site and carried out the rescue operation. A 21-member team led by Makwanpur police chief Superintendent of Police Shyam Bahadur Khatri, along with traffic police, was deployed.
Police said they were investigating the cause of the accident.
