One person has died and five others were injured when an SUV carrying officials of the High Court Birgunj plunged about 60 metres into a ravine in Makawanpur on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Badu, 49, who was among six people injured in the crash. Four of the injured were airlifted to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter and admitted to Birendra Army Hospital, Chhauni, after being found in serious condition. Laxmi Badu breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Chhauni.
The accident occurred at Jurikhel in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6 when the vehicle carrying High Court Birgunj Chief Justice Gokarna Dangi, Registrar Taradatta Badu and their family members fell off the road.
The injured were initially taken to Bhimphedi Hospital. Those injured include Dangi, Taradatta Badu, their son Ritendra Badu, daughter Rita Badu and driver Chhunilal Chaudhary.
Police said the SUV, a Scorpio bearing registration number Province 3-01-002 Jha 5183, lost control before plunging into the ravine.
