Action sought against two industries releasing toxic waste into Jhanjha River

Rautahat, January 6 Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality Office has demanded that the district administration office take action against two industries that have released water mixed with harmful chemicals from the industry into the Jhanjha River resulting in poisoning of aquatic life and creating adverse impact on the environment in Rautahat. Chief Administrative Officer at the rural municipality Om Praksh Yadav said Shree Ram Sugar Mills and Jyoti Distilleries had dumped chemically contaminated water and killed aquatic animals in the river. He said a letter had been sent to the administration demanding action against industries. He added that farmers could not irrigate the fields due to the polluted water. The rural municipality office had called a tender for fishing in the river this fiscal. Bhola Shahani, a local, had got the contract for Rs 103,000 on a yearly basis. “I added more fry in the river,” but the fry died after he got the contract. “I faced huge loss,” he said. Meanwhile, Jyoti Distilleries operator Om Prakash Jaysawal said that his industry had not released water into the river. He claimed that he had stored the polluted water in a pond near the industry. He requested the concerned authority to investigate and find out the reality. Similarly, General Manager PK Jha of Shree Ram Sugar Mills said that the industry had filtered the water and released it into the river.
