Punish guilty cops’
KATHMANDU: The Constitutional Lawyers’ Forum on Friday urged King Gyanendra to take action against security personnel involved in the brutal suppression of protesters during the movement for democracy. “Being the chairperson of the Council of Ministers, the King should stop security personnel from using brutal measures and abusing power delegated to them,” a press statement issued by the president of the forum Kumar Regmi stated. It also condemned the arrest of lawyers from a rally on Thursday. — HNS
House catches fire
KATHMANDU: A fire broke out in the house of one Uday Bahadur Sunuwar at Bouddha on Thursday, Kathmandu Municipality-6, damaging property worth around Rs 1,00,000, police said, adding that a short circuit caused the fire. The fire was doused in an hour. — HNS
Health workers’ call
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Public Health Association (NEPHA), in a press release on Friday, expressed solidarity with all alliances that have been launching peaceful protests for the establishment of democracy in the country. Flaying violent action against demonstrators and suppression of the movement, the NEPHA sought the release of health workers and all those who have been held for taking part in protests. “We ask all public health workers and members of other professional organisations to take part in movement for the establishment of democracy in Nepal,” NEPHA said. — HNS
Bike-hit claims one
KATHMANDU: Kishor Gajurel, who was hit by a motorcycle at New Baneshwor on Friday, was declared dead on arrival at the Bir Hospital, police said, adding that the motorcyclist had fled after hitting Gajurel. “We are trying to identify the motorcyclist,” said an officer at the Area Traffic Police Post, Koteshwor. Elsewhere in Kathmandu, Maya Tamang (52), was injured when a motorcycle hit her. — HNS

KATHMANDU: King Gyanendra has conferred decorations on 1,283 individuals for their contribution in maintaining law and order in the country. — RSS
Buses torched
LALITPUR: Miscreants set two buses, which were parked at Dhapakhel in Lalitpur district, on fire on Thursday. The buses belonged to the Nepal Yatayat. — RSS
Plea for peace
KATHMANDU: The Sagarmatha Mountaineers’ Association has appealed to the political parties to move ahead together for restoration of peace in the country. — RSS
