KATHMANDU, MAY 30
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reaffirmed the government's commitment to effectively implementing women's rights, gender equality and women empowerment.
In a message issued on the occasion of the 8th National Women's Rights Day, Prime Minister Shah said the Constitution has guaranteed women's rights as fundamental rights and ensured proportional and inclusive representation in all state bodies.
He stressed the need for public awareness alongside legal measures to eliminate harmful practices such as child marriage, witchcraft accusations, Chhaupadi, dowry, and gender-based, domestic and digital violence.
The Prime Minister called for active cooperation among the state, communities and stakeholders for the protection and promotion of women's rights. He also pledged to end all forms of violence, oppression and discrimination against women by empowering economically, socially and educationally disadvantaged women.
On the occasion, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Social Security Sita Badi said effective implementation of constitutionally guaranteed women's rights requires commitment and active participation from all sectors.
She said women's rights are linked not only to laws and policies but also to social behaviour, equal access to opportunities and dignified participation.
This year, National Women's Rights Day is being observed under the slogan: "Respect for Women's Rights: Campaign for Self-Reliance and Prosperity."
