One arrested for mugging motorbike riders in Kalopul

KATHMANDU: Police today have arrested a man on the charge of mugging two persons riding on a motorcycle, and robbing them of Rs 31,000 cash in Kalopul area of KMC-5. The arrested has been identified as Saugat Tamang (24) of Ramechhap, who had currently been residing in Bouddha area in Kathmandu. According to police, the arrested Tamang along with his aide Lopshang Tamang riding on a motorcycle (P No. 3-02-0003 Pa 1794) allegedly stopped the motorcycle (Ba 72 Pa 4769) and beat up the riders duo wielding sharp weapons before robbing them of cash. Acting on the information, a team of security personnel deployed from Singha Durbar-based Metropolitan Police Circle, immediately reached the incident site and rounded up one of the culprits — Saugat Tamang. Meanwhile, the injured are receiving treatment at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu. An investigation into the case is underway while the search is on for Lopsang who managed to elude police.
