Fish worth Rs 5 million die in 'poisoned pond'

RAUTAHAT: Fish worth Rs 5 million died at Gujara Municipality in the district after an unidentified group poisoned a fishery on Tuesday. According to entrepreneur Chandraket Mahato, various species of fish including Grass Carp, Silver, Rahu, Bhakura, Naine and Common Carp worth millions of rupees died as an unidentified group reportedly poisoned the fishery. He further said that 30 quintals of big fish and 80,000 new hatchlings were killed in the incident. 'Three years of our hard work has gone in vain,' Mahato lamented and urged the police administration to find the culprits and take stern action against them. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nabin Karki at the District Police Office, Rauthat said personnel issues could be the motive behind the crime. 'We have sent the sample of dead fish and water for a lab test,' DSP Karki added. Further investigation into the case is underway.
