Kathmandu, May 27 Tribhuvan Army Club inflicted first defeat on Times International Club when the departmental side won 67-66 in their home match of the Kwiks Nepal Basketball League here today. TAC, who had faced a 103-96 loss against Times in their away match on May 8 for their only defeat so far, took a sweet revenge to cut the deficit at the top of the table. Despite the loss, Times lead the table with 23 points from 12 matches, while TAC are second with 21 from 11 games. In a competitive match played at the Army Headquarters court in Bhadrakali, TAC opened the proceedings with a 20-19 lead in the first quarter. Times levelled the scores at 34-all after they took the second period 15-14. The home team opened up threepoint lead in the third quarter by netting 16 points compared to 13 from Times. The visitors fought back to win the final quarter 19- 17 but that was not enough for them to avert the defeat by one point. Binod Tamang of TAC was named the player of the match for his 14 points along with five rebounds, three steals and two assists. In another match, Golden Gate International Club thrashed South Siders Basketball Club 104- 65. With their sixth victory in 12 matches, Golden Gate are tied for fourth on 18 points with Nepal Police Club. Budanilkhantha Muncipality Basketball Club are third with 20 points, while South Siders are joint seventh on 12 points with ANK Kirtipur Basketball Team. Golden Gate opened with a 27-8 lead and never looked back. They took the second quarter 27- 21 and extended the lead by winning the third period 26-15. Golden Gate then completed the comprehensive victory with a 24-21 win in the final quarter. Binod Shrestha of Golden Gate was named the player of the match for his 21 points, six assists and three each rebounds and steals.
