Bhojpur, August 4 Bhojpur Municipality has allocated Rs 50 lakh as demanded by farmers for building traps so as to save crops from monkeys in Bhojpur. The local farmers did not demand road, drinking water, education or health facilities from the local government, but protection of crops from the monkeys. Locals of the municipality asked the people’s representatives to come up with a mechanism to chase away monkeys. Mayor Kailash Kumar Aale said the municipality had allocated Rs 50 lakh for the running fiscal following the demand of locals that the monkey problem be resolved. Mayor Aale said locals complained that the monkeys were troubling them. Besides eating crops, monkeys even carried away pots of rice from kitchens. “The people started to migrate from one place to another due to monkey troubles.” he added. Aale said crops protection was a top priority over subsidy for farmers. Aale said the ward representatives also took the monkey problem seriously. He added that traps would be built to catch monkeys from mid-August. “We have planned to catch  monkeys and release them into the parks as killing monkeys is agaisnt the law,” he said. Of the 12 wards in the municipality, people from 11 wards are fed up with the problems caused by monkeys.
