Kathmandu, September 27 The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) is preparing to establish temporary monitoring centres for the market monitoring of livestock and other products. A meeting held on Thursday has taken a decision to establish temporary monitoring centres for market monitoring within the Valley, said Pradip Bhattarai, joint spokesperson for MoALD. According to him, the ministry is forming a committee for the operation of temporary monitoring centres. “Based on the ministry’s Market Monitoring Direction prepared for the upcoming festive season, the temporary monitoring centres are being established for the convenience of consumers,” he said, “The monitoring centres are likely to come into operation from Sunday after the formation of the implementation committee.” According to Bhattarai, the monitoring centres will be establishing in seven places within the Kathmandu Valley — Kalanki, Balaju, Pharping, Jagati, Tokha, Tukucha and Sitapaila. A total of 30 technical officials will be mobilised in the seven monitoring centres during the entire festive season. “The technical officials will be regulating and monitoring the market situation and the livestock being supplied in the market,” he said. “Each team will have three to five members led by a senior technical officer.” The meeting has also decided to conduct market monitoring under the supervision of either provincial cabinet in provinces or the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration at the local levels. Likewise, as decided in the meeting held on Thursday, additional human and technical resources will be provided at the quarantine check-post of Dang, Chitwan, Bara and Nagdhunga in order to monitor and regulate the imported livestock and other products. As the festive season is about to begin, the government has intensified market monitoring. Under the Central Market Monitoring Committee Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP), Department of Food Technology and Quality, Department of Livestock Development, Department of Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology and other concerned authorities are conducting market monitoring across the country.
