With temperatures touching 40 degrees Celsius, Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has ordered all 163 schools in the area shut for three days starting Wednesday.
Classes will remain suspended on Asar 10, 11 and 12, said Education Division Chief Gorkha Bahadur Khatri, after meteorological authorities warned that the scorching heat could harm students' health and make travel to school difficult. Nearby Khajura recorded a high of 39.6 degrees Celsius.
The decision followed reports of students fainting and complaining of headaches in the days leading up to the closure.
