Authorities in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City and Khajura Rural Municipality of Banke district have announced temporary closure of schools following a sharp rise in temperature and prolonged heatwave conditions.
Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has ordered a four-day suspension of classes from June 9 to 12 in all community, institutional, and religious schools. According to Education Division Deputy Secretary Gorkha Bahadur Thapa, the decision covers 42 community, 82 institutional, and 39 religious schools.
Similarly, Khajura Rural Municipality has declared a five-day heat vacation from June 10 to 14, said Education Section Chief Khagendra Malla.
The region, along with other Tarai districts, has been experiencing intense heat and hot winds over the past few days, severely affecting daily life.
According to the Hydrology and Meteorology Office, Kohalpur, Nepalgunj recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5°C today. Senior Divisional Hydrologist Ram Prasad Awasthi said Khajura recorded 40.7°C and Kohalpur 41.2°C maximum temperatures.
