Two passengers bound for Jhapa held with 50 rounds of bullets at TIA: police

KATHMANDU: Security personnel at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) arrested two persons in possession of 50 rounds of bullets. Police identified the arrestees as Badri Hang Rai and his mother Muna Devi Rai, residents of Mechinagar Municipality-2 in Jhapa district. The duo were arrested after security personnel found 50 rounds of bullets from the luggage that belonged to them during a security check at TIA, according to Central Police Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar. All the bullets seized by police were of 9mm pistol, said police. The man and his mother were about to board the flight of Shree Airlines scheduled to take off for Bhadrapur at 12:00 pm today, SSP Kunwar told THT Online. Meanwhile, the arrestees have been handed over to Gaushala-based Metropolitan Police Circle for further investigation, police informed. Possession of arms and ammunition without a licence is illegal in Nepal. The arrestees will be tried for a case under the Arms and Ammunition Act, police said.
