Coach training begins
ILAM: A six-day training for coaches, under the German-Nepal Athletics Project, began here from today. Prof Gelzer Lange, a German instructor, said athletics in Nepal has a better perspective than cricket or football . He also said that the training is being organised to enable youth. Altogether 25 coaches from Ilam, Jhapa, Morang and Saptari are taking part in the training. The project will conduct training in Biratnagar, Pokhara, Birgunj, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Due to technical difficulties, second round matches of the Fr Watrin Basketball Championship scheduled for June 9-11 will be played at National Sports Council covered hall, said the organising committee today. Eight teams have qualified for the second round where the teams will play Best of three series and top four teams will advance to semi-finals, which will also be played in best-of-three series. — HNS
Figo skips team training
ALCOCHETE: Luis Figo trained separately from the rest of the Portuguese team after feeling pain in his right leg, team officials said. The Real Madrid player worked with the team physiotherapist on the sidelines of the training pitch during a morning session. However, officials said they expected Figo to take part in the afternoon session. — AP
