YCL spurs furore in Jhapa

Damak, May 18:

Locals of Beldangi today staged protests against the cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) for beating locals last night. Beldangi area of Damak in Jhapa district remained tensed throughout the day today.

Irate locals also beat up YCL area 17 in-charge, Kaviraj, leaving him critically injured. He is undergoing treatment in hospital.

Last night, YCL cadres, including Damak coordinator Harka Bhandari, Udesh Rai, Kalu Darjee, Binod Darjee and Ajay Rajbansi beat up locals Khadga Budhathoki, Laxman Mahat, Bhagirath Acharya and Gunaraj Ghimire, who were returning to their homes at 10 pm.

Locals thrashed Prashant and Kaviraj of YCL, who had reached Beldangi to settle the dispute this morning, after they refused to agree that the YCL had erred.

A police team was deployed to take situation under control. Ajaya Rajbansi, who was involved in last night’s incident, has been taken into custody, police said.

Meanwhile, Maoists beat up Gajendra Pariyar of Khutidangi of Jhapa over matters related with family dispute.
