Real Madrid stay atop

Madrid: Roberto Carlos scored in injury time and gave Real Madrid a 3-2 win against Recreativo Huelva on Sunday to keep them atop the Spanish league with three rounds remaining. The victory gave Madrid 69 points, the same as FC Barcelona who are second on head-to-head results. Sevilla are third with 67 and Valencia fourth on 65 points. Barcelona kept pace by trouncing Atletico Madrid 6-0 in the pouring rain at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Sevilla matched the front-runners with a 2-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna. Windies defy England

LONDON: England and West Indies remained on course for a draw in the first Test at Lord’s on Monday as the weather reduced both sides’ prospects of victory. West Indies, at tea, on the fifth and final day of the opening match of a four-Test series, were 89 without loss still needing a further 312 runs to reach their victory target of 401 after rain and bad light meant only 20 of the day’s scheduled 98 overs had been bowled. Jankovic wins

Rome: Jelena Jankovic beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5, 6-1 to win the Italian Open on Sunday and join Justine Henin as the only three-time winners on tour this year. Jankovic also won at Auckland, New Zealand, to open her season in January and took a clay-court title in Charleston, South Carolina, last month. This title — also on clay — established her as one of the favourites for the French Open, which begins next weekend. — AP
