Meet on population:

KATHMANDU: A three-day-long training on population management falicitators organised by the ministry of population and environment started here on Monday. Inaugurating the programme, minister for population and environment Bachaspati Devkota pointed out the need of population management programmes as there is no organisational structure at the district and local levels in the country. — RSS

Inter-college debate:

LALITPUR: Jayaram Sapkota of Khwapa Engineering College won the first prize in the inter-college debate competition organised by the Advance College of Engineering and Management here on Monday. A total of 21 students from nine engineering colleges took part in the comeptition. The subject for debate was ‘Can the role of machines be important than labour technology in the development of Nepal.’ Miss Suman Panta of the Advance College was adjudged second, while Pratikshya Regmi of Nepal College of Engineering and Technology was awarded the third prize. Ashesh Ghimire of Khwapa Engineering College was awarded the consolation prize. — RSS

National women’s meet:

KATHMANDU: Women workers are still facing discrimination at their workplaces due to shortcomings in the provision relating to women in the Labour Act, said speakers at a programme here on Monday. Speaking at the inaugural function of the second National Women’’s Conference organised by Nepal Trade Union Congress, speakers said women workers are still working on a low salary and are also receiving fewer opportunities and training. Some 200 women from across the country are taking part in the conference. — RSS
