Narayangarh, January 13:

The traditional Maghe Sankranti fair begins tomorrow in the holy Devghat area on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, which is also known as Maghi or Maghe Sankranti.

The three-day fair will begin with the setting up of a pole carrying an Aumkar flag at Beni, the confluence of the Trishuli and Kaligandaki rivers, tomorrow morning. The pole will be set up amid chanting of religious hymns.

Today, the pole was taken around Narayangarh in a procession led by the seer of Galeshwor Ashram and fair coordinator Swami Atmananda Giri. All the participants in the procession were dressed in yellow (Geru Vastra).

The coordinator of the fair management committee, Atmananda Giri, said devotees throng the confluence for a holy bath in the river with the belief that even the gods in human disguise come here on this day to take a holy dip in the river. He said the sacred scriptures say a dip in the holy river on Maghe Sankranti washes away all the sins.
