KATHMANDU, MARCH 13

An Air Arabia aircraft overshot during its landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu this afternoon. The plane, which was approaching TIA, overshot near Narephant after a missed approach due to 'wind shear,' according to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa.

In a similar incident, an Air India flight bound for Kathmandu from New Delhi was held in the air near Simara due to adverse weather conditions, but it later landed at TIA. A Thai Airways flight also experienced a hold in the air for some time.

On Wednesday, multiple flights faced delays due to low visibility, including a Nepal Airlines aircraft arriving from Narita, Japan, a Qatar Airways flight, an Air India flight from New Delhi, a Batik Air plane from Kuala Lumpur, and a Fly Dubai flight. Additionally, domestic flights, such as those from Buddha Air (Dhangadhi) and Yeti Airlines (Pokhara), were also held in the sky.

Flights have been disrupted across the country for the past week due to low visibility caused by adverse weather conditions, according to TIA. Spokesperson Sherpa explained that international flights are most affected due to worsening weather, with pre-monsoon activities gaining momentum and weather systems responsible for rainfall developing over Nepal.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred in various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, on Wednesday night. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, weather in the hilly areas of these provinces is expected to remain partly cloudy today, with light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning and thunder, anticipated this afternoon.
