KATHMANDU:
We’ve had our local talents try their luck in the big world of Mumbai’s tinsel town, and quite a few have met with success too. The latest to join this stream is none other than our
very own rock star Abhaya Subba-Weiss.
She has been approached by none other than Nagesh Kukunoor for his yet untitled movie that will also star Kay Kay Menon, Rajpal Yadav, Sonali Kulkarni and Prem Chopra.
The details of the movie are sketchy with uloof.com saying that it is “a different take on relationships”.
When contacted, an excited Abhaya said, “I really cannot believe it. I was apprehensive about it initially. When I was in Delhi for a rock concert last year, I met the director who offered me the role. My husband and bandmates have really been supportive.”
Abhaya will be seen in a deglamourised role of a single mother, a midwife, who works at a second job (she says this is a secret) to keep her son in an expensive private boarding school.
The film will start shooting in July and will be ready by the yearend.
Abhaya and The Steam Injuns have only recently come out with their new album titled Nayan.
That’s a really fruitful end to a great year and a promising beginning for a new year, said Abhaya adding that she is keeping her fingers crossed.
The other Nepali person in recent years to have done a Bollywood movie (apart from Manisha Koirala and her brother) is Jharana Bajr-acharya in the Sonu Nigam-starrer Love in Nepal. — HNS
