Viral fever in VDCs
MAKWANPUR: Viral fever has gripped Bimaltar of Raksirang VDC-7 and Atharegaun of Khairang VDC-1 in Makwanpur district. A team of health workers sent from district public health office has been treating the patients. The team performed health check-up on over 324 persons and provided them medicines. The team said the fever would be brought under control in two weeks. — RSS
Woman thrashed
URLABARI: Three persons, including a shaman, thrashed a woman here on Sunday, accusing her of practicing witchcraft. Shaman Biso Uram and two others thrashed Budan Uram (35) of Thapadangi in Urlabari VDC-1. The victim has beating marks all over her body. — RSS
14 hurt in mishap
DAMAULI: Fourteen passengers were injured when a bus headed to Kathmandu from Myagdi met with an accident at Simpani of Ghasikuwa VDC in Tanahu on Sunday night. The injured are undergoing treatment in Damauli Hospital. Police said the driver, conductor and owner of the bus have been absconding. — RSS
One killed in shootout
JANAKPURDHAM: A member of an armed gang was killed and a policeman was critically injured when they traded fire in Majhauratole of Laliya VDC, Dhanusha, on Sunday night. Moti Paswan of Aurahi-8 died, while ASI Baidhnath Das was hurt in the shootout, said SP Chhabilal Banjade. Kuldeep Paswan of Aurahi-8 was arrested with weapons. ASI Das was rushed to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences for treatment. — HNS
Hooch claims one
RAMECHHAP: Buchche Tamang of Pakarbas-5 died on Monday morning after drinking Sophi brand alcohol, said chief at the Ramechhap District Police Office Khinu Prasad Acharya. Following the death, local youths seized 20 cartons of Sophi brand alcohol from some shops and hotels, according to a local Narayan Paudel. Seven people have died here after drinking Sophi. — RSS
Landslide havoc
PHIDIM: Landslide has displaced four families of Sidin village development committee-1 in Panchthar district. The families of Dhan Bahadur Rai, Khasga Jabegu, Sabir Rai and Rajpati Rai have been displaced due to the landslide. The victims have been putting up in their relatives’ houses. The landslide also swept away crop planted in over 40 ropani of land and obstructed Gorulwale-Prangbung road. — RSS
Rights abuse on
DHANGADHI: The National Human Rights Commission’s regional office in Dhangadhi registered
105 cases of human rights violation within three months in the far-western region. In a book on Human Rights situation in the far-west region, the commission stated that 51 cases of rights abuse were recorded in Kailali, 13 in Bajura, 11 in Kanchanpur, eight in Achham, seven in Baitadi, five each in Dadeldhura and Doti, four in Bajhang and one in Darchula. — RSS
