APF win championship

RAUTAHAT: Jamuna Gurung and Anu Lama scored two goals each as Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club beat Central Region 4-0 to win the National Women’s Football Tournament here on Tuesday. The winners received Rs 50,000 and the runners up Rs 25,000. Jamuna was declared the best player of the tournament. Her teammate Laxmi Poudel was adjudged the best midfielder while Punam Chaudhary and Ramita Dali were named as best defender and goalkeeper respectively. In all, six teams — five development regions and the departmental team — took part in the tournament organised by ANFA Women’s Committee.

Campion defend title

KATHMANDU: Campion defended the second CPS Cup Inter-college Boys Basketball Championship with a 56-52 win against Prime College here on Tuesday. Both the teams had equal six points going into the deciding final Super League match. Chetan Gurung contributed 11 points for the winners while Sushil Gurung, who was later declared the most valuable player of the tournament, top-scored with 14 for Prime. Trinity International College defeated JVC 72-54 in the third place decider. In all, 19 teams took part in the tournament. — HNS

BBC, Bouddha draw

KATHMANDU: Brigade Boys Club (BBC) and Bouddha Football Club played 1-1 draw in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League here on Tuesday. Akash Chhantyal gave BBC the 27th minute lead but Sumin Kumar Bhattarai equalised two minutes from time to salvage a draw. Saraswoti lead the Super League standings with six points, three more than United Youth Club. BBC and Bouddha have one point each. Saraswoti will take in BBC on Thursday. — HNS

Sack Dar: Warne

MELBOURNE: Spin wizard Shane Warne wants Elite Panel umpire Aleem Dar sacked after the Pakistani committed a blunder in dismissing Mike Hussey during the second Test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). “To me Aleem Dar makes too many mistakes and needs a break. Umpire standards are pretty poor,” Warne was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph. Dar incorrectly ruled Hussey caught out by Hashim Amla off Morne Morkel on Monday. — HNS
