Snooker tournament

KATHMANDU: Sankata Saving and Credit Cooperative Ltd, under the auspices of Nepal Billiards, Snooker and Pool Association (NBSPA), is organising the Inter-cooperation Snooker Championship from January 18-24 at the Exclusive Snooker Club. A total of 73 players from 30 cooperatives of the valley are taking part in the championship, said the organisers at a press meet on Friday. The top three winners will receive Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, while the hoiighest breaker will earn Rs 10,000. “We are organising the tournament to develop the brotherhood among the people in the same profession, said Sankata Savings secretary Bindeshwor Shrestha. President of NBSPA Shyam Chitrakar said the tournament would encourage other enthusiasts to organise such tournaments at the time when the association had not been able to hold tournaments because of the financial crunch. — HNS

Five-a-side football

KATHMANDU: NIBL Friends Club is organising the Five-a-side Football Tournament at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday in memory of former national player Babin Bikram Bista and the club’s die-hard fan Binod Acharya. “We are organising the tournament to raise funds for the treatment of our former player, coach and team manager Indreshwor Amatya,” said tournament convenor Sushil KC. Amatya, who was injured 23 years ago while playing football, has not recovered fully and needs operation. “We need Rs 400,000 for the operation and we are trying to raise funds for his treatment,” said KC. In all, 20 teams are taking part in the one-day tournament. — HNS

Second APF IGP Cup

KATHMANDU: Rudra Brigade of Pathlaiya beat Muktinath Brigade of Pokhara 1-0 in the inaugural match of the second APF IGP Running Trophy football tournament here on Friday. Yetiraj Bhujel scored the winner in the ninth minute. Earlier, Armed Police Force (APF) AIG and president of APF Central Sports Committee Sanat Kumar Basnet inaugurated the tournament. In all, seven teams are taking part in the tournament. — HNS

NPC clinch trophy

CHITWAN: Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated Tribhuvan Army Club ‘A’ 25-15, 25-15 in the final of the Beach Volleyball Tournament jointly organised by Chitwan Beach Volleyball Association and District Sports Development Committee. In the women’s section final, Kavre Offset Press beat Nepal Police Club ‘A’ 25-18, 25-18. In all, 16 teams in mens and five in women’s section took part in the tournament. The winners in the both the sections received Rs 20,000 and the runners up got Rs 10,000 apiece. — HNS

Nepal APF on top

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) beat Nepal APF Club 18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 in the third Deep Jyoti Binamay Men’s Volleyball Championship on Friday. In other matches, APF defeated SEB School 25-8, 25-9, 25-11; ECS beat SEB School 25-16, 25-16, 25-19; Ghiring Sundhara Tanahun beat Rukum 25-10, 25-20, 25-17; and ECS beat Naya Bazaar 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 17-25, 17-15. APF lead the standing with 16 points from six matches, while NPC are second with 15 points from five games. ECS have 12 points from four matches. — HNS
