Kathmandu, March 16:
Lawyers today called the Supreme Court to award maximum punishment to the government and police officials who tried to mislead the court by producing false written explanations in a case related to hiding the information about the detention of two persons.
“This is a serious violation of human rights,” said advocate Bal Krishna Neupane, who pleaded on behalf of Nandu Giri and Bikram Shah, who were arrested from Kathmandu and taken to Pyuthan District Police Office.
The government and police officials had told the court that the duo had never been detained. Registrar of Pyuthan district court had found them in Pyuthan District Police Office.
Neupane added that the apex court could punish those officials for contempt of court and recommend departmental action against them.
Nepal Bar Association president Bishwo Kanta Mainali said the apex court should take the issue very seriously. “This is a serious disrespect to the court and the erring officials deserve stern action,” added Mainali.
