Kathmandu, March 27:

Nepali Congress and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party today flayed the government for not implementing the past agreements and for providing only lip services. At a meeting of the seven parties, including five coalition partners and two opposition parties, the NC and the TMDP leaders criticised the government for its failure to stop killing, extortion and intimidation. Coalition partner CPN-UML, however, was absent in today’s meeting.

“The special parliamentary committee to monitor the process of returning property seized by the Maoists during the conflict has not got its coordinator yet because of the Maoists’ claim for the post,” said NC joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh KC, after the meeting.

The committee was formed with a deadline of three months to accomplish the task. The PM had promised to implement the return of the property within three months, but the commitment has not been met even after five months, he added.

TMDP leader Hridayesh Tripathi said his party would obstruct the House session scheduled to convene from Sunday if its demands were not addressed. He also said the Special Committee on supervision, rehabilitation and integration of Maoists’ combatants was unconstitutional and the proposed bill on inclusiveness was still insufficient to meet the demands of the people of Tarai.

PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal had called the meeting to take all the parties into confidence before his visit to Norway and Finland.
