Dang, April 6:

People of a VDCs in the remote hilly areas of Rukum district are reeling under acute food crisis.

There is a crisis of food in the VDCs including Mahat, Kolkankri, Maikot, Hukam and Bhatkesera, Bir Man Buda, a Mahat VDC local said, adding, the food crisis looms as the major crop of wheat could not be cultivated thanks to the dry winter.

Lack of sufficient rainfall also affected the produce of crops including maize, millet and paddy this year, locals said, adding, food crisis prevails as the yield of the winter and monsoon crops decreased remarkably.

The locals said they were forced to eat potatoes and buckwheat in the lack of rice, maize and wheat.
