MAHENDRANAGAR: Demanding induction of local youths to the project, the locals have vandalized and padlocked the Chameliya Hydro power project office, bringing the construction work to a standstill.

Police had to fire five rounds in the air to bring the situation under control after a clash broke out between the locals and police when the police tried to prevent the angry locals from padlocking the office

The locals have been organising protest programmes asking for employment to the local youths in the project.

Earlier, they had submitted a memorandum to the project office putting forth their 22-point demand list. The agitating locals claimed they were compelled to take the move as the project management failed to pay heed to their demand.
