KATHMANDU: Civil society activists today staged a sit-in protest in front of the official residence of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in Baluwatar, demanding the government's prompt and effective response to diarrhoea and cholera-hit mid- and far-western regions. The one-hour protest across Gate No 1 of the PM's residence was led by Dr Devendra Raj Pandey on behalf of the Civic Movement for Democracy and Peace. The demonstrators flayed the government's laxity in responding to the woes of victimised families and patients struggling for life without proper medical care. "Everything has fallen apart in the country. The government doesn't seem to be serious about bringing the political chaos to an end, giving people respite from skyrocketing commodity prices and providing proper medical care to the diarrhoea and cholera-affected people," said Dr Pandey. The activists also expressed concern about deteriorating security situation in the country. Krishna Pahadi demanded that the government should find a way out of the crisis at the earliest. He also accused the government and political parties of ignoring the key agenda of drafting the new constitution mandated by Jana Andolan-II. Meanwhile, the activists have announced a protest rally in Ratnapark on Friday to pressure the govern- ment to address the ongoing crisis.
