ITAHARI: A team of rights activists is set to come to Sunsari from Kathmandu to probe into the incident of beating up of some local residents by personnel of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. A five-member team of the right activists led by Janaadhikar Protection Forum, including physicians, has been scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. The policemen, who were under the influence of alcohol, had allegedly beat up some locals of Chatara when the latter were returning after attending a funeral ceremony on Friday night. “We decided to probe into the case as the brutal attack over the innocent mourners is a heinous crime,” Hemanga Sharma, acting director, JPF, said adding that they would exert pressure on the government for taking action against the guilty found after the investigation. It has been learnt that human rights activists active in the eastern region would also be involved in the team. According to the victims, the police had thrashed them saying that they were stopped from boarding on the vehicle carrying the mourners.
