KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Headquarters today formed a three-member committee led by AIGP Kiran Gautam to probe into the deliberate attack on DSP Dilip Chaudhary, in-charge of Metropolitan Police Sector (MPS). Chaudhary was brutally attacked during a Maoist protest in New Baneshwor on Sunday. The probe committee members comprised of DIGP duo Parshu Ram Khatri and Ganga Pandey. The irate Maoist protesters had repeatedly attacked DSP Chaudhary with iron rods and stone as the latter tried to handle the unruly mob in New Baneshwor on Sunday’s Moaist protest. Chaudhary sustained multiple head injuries and is said to be recovering following an emergency surgery at Neuro Hospital in Bansbari. The probe committee has been mandated to find out why the police personnel deployed in hundreds failed to protect their commander during the clash. Meantime, Nepal Police has been directed to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack. The probe committee will submit their report to the government within a stipulated time. The officials, however, did not spell out how long the tenure of the probe committee will last. The savage attack on a police officer on duty has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, Minister for Home Affairs Bhim Bahadur Rawal and IG of Nepal Police Ramesh Chand Thakuri. The officials are reportedly shaken by the incident. DSP Chaudhary is yet to be discharged from the hospital but IGP Thakuri had said he would join the duty soon. Nepal Police yesterday said they were undettered by the incident. Chaudhary is learnt to have been on the Maoist list for his alleged role in repressing their earlier protest at Singha Durbar .
