Illegal shops sealed

NEW DELHI: New Delhi officials backed by armed police swooped on a shopping complex on Wednesday to enforce a controversial court order cracking down on illegal shops. Amid tight security a day after clashes between police and shopkeepers in the Indian capital, officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi turned up unannounced at the complex in an upmarket South Delhi district. Anti-riot troopers armed with guns and teargas cannons stood guard as the officials began sealing shops. — AFP
