Briquettes gain popularity

Sarlahi, November 13:

Women in the northern parts of Sarlahi district have begun making and selling briquettes as an alternative source of fuel.

They are preparing briquettes using Banmara, an easily available weed in the nearby jungle.

The Chure region programme, Mahottari has been providing training to women to make briquettes. Balram Baral, chairman of Manakamana Community Forest Users’ Group said, “Rural women are being able to support their families after selling briquettes. They are now spending their leisure time fruitfully.”

Sunita Chhetri, a local woman, said, “Briquettes are now the main fuel for us.”
