Chitwan claim Mayor’s Cup

Chitwan Cricket Club defeated Kalaiya Cricket Club by 54 runs in the final of the 16th Mayor’s Chitwan Championship Trophy here at the Campa Chaur today.
Batting first, hosts Chitwan posted 109-7 in their allotted 20 overs before packing Kalaiya to 55 runs in 12.3 overs. With the trophy, Chitwan received Rs 100,000, while runners-up Kalaiya bagged Rs 50,000.
Kishor Mahato starred with the ball as he destroyed Kalaiya innings taking five-wicket haul that also earned him the manof-the-match award. Mahato returned with 5-9 from 3.3 overs, while Dipesh Shrestha and Gautam KC claimed two wickets each.
Shiva Tandukar was the top scorer for Kalaiya with run-a-ball 23 that included three fours and a six, while skipper Kumar Thapa (11) was the only other batsman who contributed in double figures for Kalaiya.
Earlier, Ram Karki top scored for home team with 31 off 47 balls, while Dipesh Shrestha scored 26 off 30 balls. Shrestha also struck one each four and six. They revived the innings with a 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Hem Raj Paudel (15) and Hari Bahadur Chauhan (11 not out) chipped in with valuable runs. Ashutosh Patel, Adil Ansari and Anil Sah took two wickets each for Kalaiya.
Dipesh Shrestha of Chitwan was adjudged the player of the series and he earned Rs 10,000. Kishor Mahato of Chitwan was named the best bowler, while Raju Rizal of Dhangadhi Cricket Academy was declared the best batsman.
They earned Rs 5,000 each.
Balkumari School’s Management Committee President Deshiram Pradhan, Cricket Association of Chitwan President Kailash Pradhan, tournament committee coordinator Sudeep Piya, senior artist Riddhi Charan Shrestha, and NSJF Kaski President Binod Babu Rijal among others handed over prizes to the winners of the tournament. A total of six teams took part in the event organised by Cricket Association of Chitwan.
