Customs dept to get inner, outer facelift

Kathmandu, October 23:

New and innovative changes will be introduced in the customs department to increase investment in the business sector.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Nepal Chambers of Commerce (NCC), customs division managing director Bodhraj Niraula said, “The improvement programme initiated by the customs administration in the near future will definitely simplify trade and business. It will also strive for more cooperation from the private sector to support in the effective mobilization of revenue.”

Niraula said, “To create an effective working system at Customs offices, there is a need for more advanced technology so that there can be better exchange of information among these offices.”

NCC president Surendra Bir Malakar said, “Though according to the world business committee, it has managed the evaluation process but the process is not being followed in practice.

Similarly, customs management and modernisation work is also pending. There must

be immediate improvement in the customs department’s working process, administration, infrastructural development and the checking procedures.”
