Disadvantaged elderly people to be able to get 50pc discount on airfare

Kathmandu, September 27

Domestic airline operators have announced 50 per cent waiver on air tickets to disadvantaged elderly people above 70 years of age.

The meeting of Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) today made the decision in this regard effective from Ghatasthapana. However, AOAN has placed a number of conditions for beneficiaries to avail this facility.

To avail the discount in air tickets, beneficiaries should declare themselves disadvantaged at office of respective airlines. Similarly, the 50 per cent off will be offered only in upper limit of airfare on different routes fixed by government.

The government fixes minimum and maximum limit of airfare on different routes on the basis of fuel surcharge and airport charge.

Likewise, AOAN said that an airline company operating flights in trunk routes will offer this facility for maximum of two beneficiaries per day on each trunk route. Meanwhile, airline companies will offer the facility to only one beneficiary per day in each short-haul route.
