DPR of Sindhuli domestic airport completed
Kathmandu, May 22
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has recently completed Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the domestic airport to be built in Sindhuli district, which has revealed that the project site in Kamalamai Municipality-8 is feasible.
CAAN had conducted the DPR as per the demand of the locals, informed Trilochan Poudyal, information officer of CAAN.
“Locals have been demanding an airport in this district for a long time. In consideration of their request, CAAN had supported the DPR study of the airport,” Poudyal said.
According to him, the project, however, does not fall under the supervision of CAAN. Nepal government had allocated a total of Rs two million to prepare the DPR of this airport.
“We have been informed that the DPR is ready, but the study team is yet to submit it to us. Maybe the report will be submitted within a week.
After receiving it, an internal discussion will be held. And only after receiving a go ahead from CAAN, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) of the project will commence,” he said.
Thereafter, the Environment Impact Assessment of the project will be undertaken.
“It will take around one month to complete all these processes,” Poudyal added.
He further said that the government aims to complete the entire project within two years.
As per the DPR, the airport will cover 1,442 ropanis of land near Kalyani Temple located between Karkare and Sisneri. The airport will be designed to handle ATR-72 aircraft. After the airport comes into operation, people Sindhuli along with those from Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Kavre, Mahottari, Dhanusha and Udayapur will be benefited.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 930 million, which includes construction of paved runway, terminal building, parking bay, road, air traffic control tower and other required infrastructure.
