East-west highway may pass thru hills
Nuwakot, December 31:
Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat today, while inaugurating a newly-road at Badtang of Nuwakot, said that another east-west highway will be constructed in the hilly region.
"Though there is no alternative to Mahendra Highway, the government is thinking of constructing a highway linking Mechi to Mahakali from middle part of the hilly region," he said.
"If the highway was constructed, it would benefit people of hilly region for their trade," he said, adding that the government has planned to construct at least 200-metre of concrete roads in each district.
Saying that people should always be conscious for developmental work, Mahat added: "People should guide the government. If people take active initiatives, the government will be forced to help them in their attempts."
He said that government has increased development aid for the local bodies.
The locals constructed 4.5-km-long road linking Deurali to Badtang in Nuwakot at the
cost of Rs 43,00,000, according to the secretary of construction committee, Gar Bahadur
Tamang. NC leader Bhim Bahadur Tamang also spoke on the occasion.
