Biratnagar, August 7:

Third country import and export from Kakarvitta and Biratnagar’s Rani customs points saw a huge rise in the past fiscal year.

Rise in trade worth Rs 4 billion was recorded.While import and export worth Rs 20.69 billion were recorded in 2064-65, the amount was Rs 16.31 billion last year. Export from the points, that cover 16 districts of the eastern region, grew by Rs 3.95 billion. Goods worth Rs 6.36 billion were exported during the year.

Imports rose by Rs 1.97 in the year over imports worth Rs 12.35 billion the previous year. Bindu Bhattarai, chief of eastern regional office of the trade and export promotion centre, said Canada, Germany, Turkey, Bhutan, USA, Bangladesh, Italy, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Qatar, Hong Kong, Pakistan, France, Portugal, New Zealand, Mauritius, Vietnam, Colombia and Japan were major export destinations.
