Electric fence to keep animals at bay

CHITWAN:To ward off animal attacks on human beings and reduce crop depredation, an electric fence will be installed in the forest area straddling Chitwan National Park and corridor area linking Chure Pahad.

The electric fencing will be carried out as soon as possible at a cost of Rs 700,000, said Ram Chandra Devkota, secretary of Bandevi Community Forest that owns the forest area. He said preparations to put up the electric fence are in the final phase. Electric current will be fed to the fence at night to curb the increasing menace of animals, he said.

“Animals enter villages and damage crops,” said Krishna Prajapati, chairperson of the forest body.
